Union NASUWT ballots members on industrial action

Hundreds of teachers on the Isle of Man have voted for strike action.

The NASUWT has more than 600 members, out of the Island's 847 teachers.

The union held a ballot where 94 per cent of its members in schools (of the 57 per cent that took part) voted for industrial action, 85 per cent of whom voted for strike action.

It's after the Department of Education, Sport and Culture announced last month it couldn't afford to give teachers the pay rise they want.

However, the ongoing negotiations with DESC also relate to 'pensions, workload and conditions of service'.

Turnout for the vote was 57 per cent in schools, and 50 per cent at the University College Isle of Man, where there was an 87 per cent vote in support of industrial and strike action.
