Fifth candidate to stand in Ramsey

Peter Whiteway was clerk of the town's commissioners for 20 years

A fifth candidate has confirmed they'll be standing as a candidate for Ramsey in September's General Election.

Peter Whiteway spent 20 years as clerk of the town's commissioners and now serves in a number of voluntary roles.

If elected, he says his priorities will include the future of the Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital, education and employment opportunities for young people and housing.

Peter says: "Like other candidates I can’t pretend to have all the answers, and I will face a learning curve in some areas; however, I can commit to being honest, diligent, approachable, open to discussion and suggestions, and to work collaboratively to find ways in which these and other areas of concern can be addressed."

Also currently known to be standing in the constituency are Robert Cowell, Lawrie Hooper, Juan McGuinness and Janine Shimmin.

Nominations for candidates closed at 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 August) and Manx Radio is still awaiting confirmation of the full list.

The General Election is taking place on Thursday 24 September.
