Election candidate decides to only stand in one constituency

Arwid Hall insists he was highlighting a weakness in the law, not 'exploiting' it

An election candidate who had been planning to stand in two constituencies is now only standing in one.

Arwid Hall is currently a member of two local authority boards - Douglas City Council and Ramsey Commissioners.

He had previously announced his intention to stand in both Douglas East and Douglas South, but has since decided to only stand in Douglas South.

Taking to Facebook, he says his intention was never about 'exploiting' the law, but about highlighting a weakness in it.

Mr Hall says: "This was never about 'gaming' the election, exploiting a deficiency for personal advantage, or trying to run two campaigns. 

"If that had been my intention, I would have sought signatures and canvassed in Douglas East. 

"I did neither.

"Highlighting a weakness in the law is not the same as exploiting it."

Also currently known to be standing in Douglas South are Dean Bolton, Claire Christian, Livia Lenarduzzi and Sarah Maltby.

Nominations for candidates closed at 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 August) and Manx Radio is still awaiting confirmation of the full list.

The General Election is taking place on Thursday 24 September.
