Douglas man admits going 'too far' after garage provocation 

33-year-old retaliated after being pushed

A Douglas man who was assaulted by a stranger whilst waiting in a queue has admitted going ‘too far’ in self-defence.

Carl James Druggan, of Derby Road, was in EVF on Peel Road on 16 June when the man behind him pushed him.

The 33-year-old fell to the ground as the two began tussling, at around 9.40pm, and Druggan punched him multiple times.

Druggan had been due to stand trial but changed his plea to guilty on a charge of provoking behaviour.

The prosecutor told the court: "It’s a case of self-defence gone too far."

Druggan’s advocate said his client had been 'minding his own business' at the till adding: "This was quite a startling incident."

"He instantly reacted to defend himself, as one would,” the advocate said: "He does apologise, he does regret how things progressed."

Imposing a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordering Druggan to pay prosecution costs of £300, Magistrates told Druggan: "The initial provoking behaviour was not down to you as the aggressor."
