The crossings formed part of the prom regeneration scheme
Paved pedestrian crossings on Loch Promenade near the junctions with Victoria Street and Regent Street will be repaired over the coming weeks.
Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 19 October.
The Department of Infrastructure says areas of the block paving have sunk and a number of individual bricks have become damaged. It is planned to remove the failed surfaces and replace them with asphalt.
In the first week, the crossing nearest Victoria Street will be repaired first, with work expected to take up to a week. The road will remain open to traffic controlled by temporary three-way traffic lights.
The DoI says it will be necessary to suspend operation of the temporary controlled crossing near Regent Street while this work is underway to avoid conflicting with the temporary traffic lights. Pedestrians wishing to use a crossing will be directed to the Zebra crossing at Howard Street.
In the second week, the zebra crossing opposite Villiers Square, which is currently closed due to adjacent building works, will then be repaired, followed by the crossing at Regent Street. Once work there is complete, the temporary controlled crossing at the Regent Street junction will reopen for use.
The DoI's long-term intention is to replace all of the crossings with natural stone granite paving, providing a more durable and consistent solution. However it says this will 'need to be delivered on a phased basis'.
Two crossings on Harris Promenade, in the vicinity of the Villa Marina, are scheduled to be replaced with granite paving later in the current financial year.
