International event receives funding boost

The Ulster Grand Prix international Road Race could return in 2027.

Organisers are set to receive a boost in funding which could see the GP remain on the calendar for multiple years.

Multi-year funding in the region of £400,000 will be provided to the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland from the Northern Ireland Executive.

The GP has not taken place since 2019 due to the Covid 19 pandemic and financial issues leading to a six-year-absence.

Ulster is one of the 'big three' international races alongside the Isle of Man TT and North West 200.

In and around 50 percent of the funding will be used for improvements to the 'iconic' Dundrod circuit, however, funding for the race is not provided.

NI Executive hopes to get additional funding through other government funds, including Tourism NI and Lisburn and Castlereagh Council.
Peter Hickman holds the lap record with 136.415 mph set in 2019.
