Youthful Island side impresses in four-team tournament

A youthful Isle of Man handball squad has taken an impressive tournament win in Europe.

Handball Isle of Man finished in top spot with two wins and one defeat following a four-team competition held in Ochtrup, Germany from Friday to Sunday last week (10-12 April).

The Manx side kicked-off the three-day series with a commanding win over Neuenkirchen - storming into a 10-1 lead by half-time before some squad rotation saw them extend that to a 15-7 victory come full-time.

A more challenging test followed, however, with the Isle of Man falling to its only defeat of the event at the hands of Ahaus by a 9-12 scoreline after the Islanders had initially held a 6-4 lead at the halfway stage.

Undeterred by the setback, the Isle of Man then faced unbeaten hosts, Ochtrup with the Manx squad putting in what is being described as 'their most complete performance of the tournament' to emerge 13-10 winners to claim the match and tournament overall.
