Triathlon: Island duo complete IRONMAN World Championship race

Quaye and Callow complete grueling event in Hawaii

Two Island athletes who'd qualified for the 2024 IRONMAN World Championship successfully finished this year's event.

Nigel Quaye and Dr Richard Callow were part of the grueling challenge in Kona, Hawaii on Saturday, 26 October which saw more than 2,400 male athletes take on a 140.6mile course.

Callow completed the challenge in ten hours, 15 minutes and 40 seconds to finish 161st in the Men's 40-44 category.

Quaye was in the same age band and crossed the line in eleven hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds to finish 242nd in class.

During the day the pair joined fellow competitors in opening the race with a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride before the final stretch involving a run over 26.2 miles.

What's more, 85 countries, regions and territories were represented at this year's championships with a wide range of ages taking part from the youngest at 20 up to the oldest at 84 years old.
