St John’s and Douglas Royal were officially relegated on Saturday.
What had been expected for some time was confirmed as Royal were demolished 9-0 at champions St George’s, while Ayre United’s fine 2-0 victory at Rushen meant St John’s dropped out of the top flight without even playing.
In a Manx football programme decimated by the weather, Royal had no answer to the Geordies.
Just five days after they won the FA Cup in style, Chris Bass’ side went on the rampage again.
And it was the prolific duo of Callum Moirrissey and Chris Bass junior who were the heroes as they scored four each!
Promising youngster James McStay was also on target – his second in a week after his Cup Final opener - as St George’s moved closer to becoming the first winners of the Sure Mobile Premier League.
The result capped a miserable season for Royal who lost key players before the campaign started but made a promising start before a miserable winter left them adrift at the bottom.
Royal will be joined in CFS Division Two next season by St John’s after Ayre United’s inconsistent campaign hit a high.
Their 2-0 win at Rushen, courtesy of a double from marksman Johnny Cowley, meant they can’t be caught by the westerners.
