Athlete battles wind, rain and mountains in Norway

A Manx athlete won a triathlon in the Arctic Circle.

Listed as an 'Extreme' triathlon, Dr Richard Callow won the gruelling event in just over 11 hours on Friday (15 August).

Competitors were tasked with a 4km swim, 181km cycle and a 42km run, as well as battling two mountains in the Lofoten archipelago in Norway.

Callow, who previously lived in Union Mills, comfortably beat his nearest challenger by 27 minutes and 16 seconds.

After the race Richard said: "it was a good challenge, but you don’t usually have to climb two mountains twice when you run a marathon".
