Historic Asphalt Championship coming in next season

The Manx Rally will play host to a round of a new championship being introduced in 2026.

The Island event - due to take place on Friday, 8 May and Saturday, 9 May next year - has been selected to form a phase of the new Roger Albert Clark Historic Asphalt Championship.

It's hoped the new competition will allow teams in all categories of historic car to compete in a dedicated asphalt series.

The Isle of Man meeting will be the second of five weekends that the championship will run across between February and September next year.

It'll also run parallel to the existing British Historic Rally Championship.

Subject to how well the new-look competition is received, officials say the schedule may be increased and extended in 2027.

Championship Manager, Colin Heppenstall, says: "We recognise that there are a lot of historic cars now that are being used only on asphalt rallies.

"We are committed to the BHRC remaining a mixed surface championship so we felt this was the ideal time to launch a parallel series, purely for asphalt rallies.

"We're keen to talk to everyone who has a car from across the full range of historic categories and will welcome entries from Ireland and mainland Europe."
