Gotland to host 2031 International Island Games

IIGA confirms plans following annual general meeting

Gotland have been confirmed as the hosts for the International Island Games in 2031.

Following a vote at its annual general meeting on Sunday, 5 July, the International Island Games Association (IIGA) confirms the event will take place there from 28 June to 4 July in that year.

It'll be the third time Gotland - which was one of the founding members of the games in 1985 - has hosted the event having done so first in 1999 and then again in 2017.

Chair of the organising committee, Fredrik Persson, says: "It feels so good that we have now reached the finish line with this application process that we have been working on since 2024. 

"Now we have five years to deliver a great games"

Separately, two other nations will hold the games before they head to Gotland.

Faroe Islands are the next hosts in 2027 from Saturday, 3 July to Friday, 9 July next year.

After that, the games will move to the Isle of Man in 2029 from 14-20 July that year.
