Cricket: Lucy Barnett named August ICC Women's Player of the Month

Island player scoops award after standout international performances

Isle of Man cricketer, Lucy Barnett has been named ICC Women's Player of the Month for August.

The 19-year-old secures the accolade having starred for the Manx women's national team at the 2026 Continental Cup in Romania last month.

Barnett went on to be named MVP at that tournament, registering 257 runs in total which included a century and two half-centuries as the Isle of Man went on to finish runners-up to Turkey.

Isle of Man Cricket says this also makes Barnett the first ever local competitor to receive an ICC Player of the Month award.

Having received the award, Barnett says: "Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling and, honestly, still feels a little unbelievable as I am making history of sorts for the Isle of Man.

"It’s a fantastic time for women’s cricket, and to have the spotlight on me now is a truly special feeling.

"This award gives me even more motivation to keep pushing myself, and I hope to carry this form into the matches ahead and create many more special moments for my team."

Thailand players, Sulepoorn Laomi and Nannapat Koncharoenkai had also been in the running for the prize.
