Athletics: Top-five for Cain at Swansea Half Marathon

Helen Simpson also sets new Island record during meeting

A top-five finish and a new Island record were among the headlines for Manx athletes during this year's Swansea Half Marathon.

No fewer than five competitors with ties to the Isle of Man were part of the meeting which took place in Wales on Sunday, 7 June.

Among those, Christa Cain - representing England Masters - was the first of the Isle of Man athletes to finish with a time of one hour, 15 minutes and 11 seconds which which also saw her finish fifth in the women's overall standings.

Elsewhere, Isle of Man Veteran Athletes' Club (IOMVAC) member, Helen Simpson - also representing England Masters - set a new Island record in the women's half-marathon 60 category, clocking a time of one hour, 39 minutes and 20 seconds to finish fifth in that age group.

Elsewhere, Dawn Atherton also excelled to finish 20th overall in the women's race with a personal best time over half-marathon distance of one hour, 22 minutes and 50 seconds which also secured her second spot in the women's 40 age class.

Meanwhile, in the men's race, Manx Fell Runners member, Mark Burman finished 51st overall and 13th in the men's 40 class with a time of one hour, 15 minutes and 20 seconds.

Also involved in the men's event was IOMVAC athlete, Simon Scott whose final time of one hour, 42 minutes and 19 seconds saw him end up in 44th position in the male 55's race.
