2026 Glasgow games 'an outstanding success', says CGA

Isle of Man claimed two medals in Scotland this summer

The Commonwealth Games Association of the Isle of Man (IOMCGA) is describing the 2026 event in Glasgow this summer as 'an outstanding success'.

The Manx squad claimed two medals in the Scottish city between Thursday, 23 July and Sunday, 2 August.

First, David Mullarkey claimed bronze in the Men's 10,000m race at Scotstoun Stadium - the Isle of Man's first Commonwealth medal since 2018 and its first ever in athletics.

Then, on the final day, cyclist, Matthew Bostock became the first Island competitor in 20 years to claim Commonwealth gold with victory in the Men's 40km Points Race.

President of the IOMCGA, Basil Bielich, says: "The team turned in great performances and competed with great credit. It was noticeable that more of our athletes were competing at a much higher level than previous Games and contesting finals and semi-finals. 

"The support of Isle of Man Sport has been vital to this year's success, and CGA Isle of Man looks forward to continuing that partnership to provide a clear pathway to elite competition for the Island's finest sportsmen and sportswomen as preparations for 2030 begin."

Outside of the medals, more than ten athletes made their games debuts in 2026 across the disciplines of bowls, athletics, gymnastics, para powerlifting and swimming.

Meanwhile, Team Isle of Man Chef du Mission, Erica Bellhouse, adds: "It was an honour and privilege to see each and every one of the team perform at the Games. To wear the Isle of Man shirt on the highest international stage is an immense honour and they all did it with pride and professionalism. The number of personal best performances, national records and medals achieved was incredible, and the team can be proud of themselves.

"To our two medalists, David and Matt - thank you for putting the Isle of Man on the map and showing what is possible when you work hard and believe – they are an inspiration to us all!"

The Commonwealth Games are due to return in 2030 in Amdavad, India, in what will be the centenary year of the event.
