TT joke complaint thrown out

Irish broadcaster RTE has escaped action from the Broadcasting Complaints Committee after a viewer objected to a joke about the TT.

Bernard Kavanagh complained after the station’s Nightlive comedy show featured a sketch which joked that anyone riding in the event must have a death wish.

But the BCC said it didn’t agree it was an inappropriate joke about suicide, or that it degraded road racers.

Rejecting the complaint, the BCC said while such humour might not appeal to all, it was the well-known dangers of racing that were being scrutinised.

In its ruling, it added: "On viewing the piece, the Commission was of the opinion that it dealt with the risk-taking aspect of participating in the Isle of Man TT road race in a sarcastic and humorous manner".
