Sentence delayed for DoI in tram health and safety case

Legal issue needs resolving before case can progress

The Department of Infrastructure will have to wait longer to hear how it will be punished for health and safety failings.

Sentencing, for two offences of failing to discharge duty on the Manx Electric Railway, was due to take place today.

However Deputy High Bailiff Graeme Cook agreed to adjourn due to a legal issue which needs rectifying before the matter can be brought back to court.

At a previous hearing the DoI had admitted the offences, which date between 12 April 2017 and 17 July 2021, and which relate to adequate maintenance procedures.

On the latter date an MER tram derailed near Lewiague.

The case will next appear in court on 15 December.
