Renewed debate on Military Covenant

This year's Remembrance Day has renewed debate on how government and society should support members of the armed forces.

Services were held across the Island yesterday (Sunday) while large numbers gathered at the War Memorial in Douglas for a two-minute silence and the laying of poppy wreaths, at 11am.

Members of 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery, which was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Douglas last year, joined local veterans for the service and parade.

Speaking on Sunday Opinion afterwards, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Rimmer suggested the Isle of Man could look at adopting the Military Covenant, a pledge to ensure armed forces personnel are properly rewarded, in the widest sense.
