Post graduate funding could be cut

The Department of Education wants to hear people's views on proposed changes to the way it supports university students from the Isle of Man.

As budgets start to tighten, following the redrawing of the VAT revenue sharing agreement with the United Kingdom, the department says it currently funds 1,400 students to the tune of £12 million in fees and grants.

In particular, there are concerns about the level of postgraduate funding, and Director of Education John Cain says that's an area which is likely to see cutbacks.

He says a number of ideas are being considered to keep costs down, while trying to support those in higher education (play audio file):
