New plans for Laxey sea wall

Concerns raised over initial designs

Changes have been made to the Government's plans for a new sea wall in Laxey.

The Department of Infrastructure has submitted a new planning application for the project after concerns were raised about the initial designs, which included a 1.2m high sea wall.

The new plans involve raising the walkway by 65cm, with the option to add 1.2m high storm boards at the location of the existing steps to be fitted during storm surges, while a wall along Tent Road will now be 1 metre further back than originally planned.

It's hoped the new plans take into account the concerns of the public while also dealing with the impact of climate change.

The construction of the sea wall had initially been expected to get underway last month, and is likely to cost up to £2m.

The new plans can be viewed at the Garff Commissioners' offices in Laxey between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
