Safe Cycling Isle of Man set up in memory of Kate Burge
'Protect cyclists in law' - that's the message from a new campaign being launched today (Wednseday, July 22).
Safe Cycling Isle of Man has been set up by family members of Kate Burge who was killed in a road traffic collision in Kirk Michael last year.
Sixty-three-year-old Linda Thompson, from Sulby, admitted causing the death by careless or inconsiderate driving - she was sentenced to a suspended 18 month prison sentence at Douglas Courthouse today.
She's also been banned from driving for three years.
The safer cycling campaign wants to see a law introducting a minimum safe passing distance of cyclists by Tynwald.
Campaign leader Sean McLachlan says the Island wouldn't be the first place to have such legislation:
Amendments to Assisted Dying Bill approved by Tynwald
No routine GP appointments Wednesday afternoonÂ
Last chance to submit nominations for local authority by-elections
Rapid review into hospital provides 'clear direction' but there is 'no single solution', says minister
