Claims current funding model is broken
The Chairman of Manx Radio says public service broadcasting “isn’t an electronic jukebox”, and believes the “current funding model is broken”.
Bill Mummery was speaking at a hearing of the Tynwald Select Committee tasked with reviewing the provision of PSB at the Legislative Buildings in Douglas this morning (Wed 2nd).
Mr Mummery says we must clearly define what we mean by, and what we require from, our public service broadcaster and whether advertising should form a part of that service.
He thinks the station is of “a real value to the island”, and that it’s “under-resourced”
Meanwhile, Managing Director Anthony Pugh called Manx Radio “PSB Lite”, and said the station’s remit is restricted by its funding.
