Incident deemed a 'momentary lapse of judgement' by prosecution

A Jurby woman has denied causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Lucia Drlova, of The Bretney, appeared before Magistrates at Douglas Courthouse this morning.

The 43-year-old entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

The road traffic collision took place on Tuesday 6 May at 10:35am at the junction of Glenn Mooar Road and Poortown Road in Peel.

It resulted in the death of 61-year-old motorcyclist Stephen Hands.

He succumbed to his injuries three days later on 9 May at Aintree Hospital.

Magistrates retained jurisdiction of the case this morning, after the prosecution described the incident as a "momentary lapse of judgement - a catastrophic one".

The court heard in interview Drlova said: "I was not careless, I was cautious and I stopped."

She was bailed until her next court appearance for a pre-trial review on 20 January 2026.
