Man jailed for breaking partner's cheek in assault

21-year-old sent to prison for 2.5 years

Report by BBC Isle of Man

A man who broke his partner's cheekbone during an attack that lasted 25 minutes has been jailed for two and a half years.

Jack Mallaby, of Douglas, threw multiple punches at the woman in a 'protracted attack' that also left her with a 'ripped ear'.

Douglas Courthouse heard Mallaby had argued the assault, which took place in May 2023, was self-defence but was found guilty of domestic abuse after a trial.

The 21-year-old was also given a five-year restraining order barring him from contacting his victim.

The court was told Mallaby's attack on the victim, who was 17 at the time, took place in a caravan following an argument between them on 14 May 2023.

During the assault he had straddled the victim, hit her head against the side of the caravan and punched her multiple times.

In a victim impact statement, read to the court, she said it had had a damaging psychological impact on her, leaving her afraid to go out in public in case she encountered Mallaby.

Deemster Sandeep Kainth said it had been a "very unpleasant assault" that has resulted in "significant long-term injuries” to the victim.

By pleading not guilty and letting the matter go to trial Mallaby remained "in denial” he added.
