Invasive salmon species found in Island river

Anglers warned to watch out for Pacific Pink Salmon

An invasive species of salmon has been found in a river in the west of the Island.

A female Pacific Pink Salmon, a non-native species, has been captured by an angler in the River Neb.

The fish can be identified by their characteristic black mouths, large round, dark spots on their tails and a prominent hump on male salmon in season and have become more prevalent in waters in the UK.

Anyone who catches one is asked not to release it - instead take photos, freeze it and inform the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture who can collect it.
