The government may have to step in an appoint people to run local authorities if there’s not enough public interest in standing.

So says Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne after a number of local authorities found not only will they not need an election, but there are too few people to run the boards.

So far, seven sets of commissioners say they’ll have to re-advertise after failing to turn up enough candidates for April’s polls.
