Company and charity found to take over services, subject to funding

It's been announced that, subject to funding, the Family Library and its services will continue.

The Friends of the Family Library group says it has secured a company and charity to take over once the current directors cease trading at the end of July.

Amy Whitty, the chair of the Friends, says they hope to keep disruption to a minimum:

The Friends of the Family Library has been fundraising and exploring options since the directors first gave the closure notice last month citing financial pressures.

It says funds raised via a JustGiving page will be safeguarded and used to prolong the services.

A statement says: 'Since the announcement from the Family Library Limited, the Friends have been having meetings with all relevant parties and we appreciate all the support and donations given.

'Tynwald have passed a motion which gives us an opportunity to have discussions and we appreciate the time which is being given to understand our position.

'The Friends are not only looking at this transition period but want to secure a strong future and we are working with the new charity to develop a business plan and operating model for the these valued community services.'

More details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher has been urging government to intervene and prevent the Family Library from closing.

She's been speaking to Manx Radio about this latest development:

Anyone who wants to get in touch with questions or support for the Friends of the Family Library is invited to visit the site on Westmoreland Road or at the Mobile Library or via email on friendsofthefamilylibrary@gmail.com

A new Friends of Family Library Facebook page has also been created.
