Extra funding from Treasury for Manx Care

Healthcare provider says some cuts will still be needed in February and March

Manx Care says it's received additional funding from Treasury, allowing it to reinstate many planned procedures on Island over the next two months.

However, it has had to implement a series of measures in order to address its financial challenges.

The board says despite previous measures aimed at reducing spending, its costs continue to rise, and it now faces an overspend of £15m for the current financial year.

A media release recalled earlier this month was leaked by the former health minister yesterday, revealing a number of cuts previously being considered by Manx Care.

The healthcare provider says the funding agreed by Treasury means these planned actions can now be reduced, but some efficiencies will still be needed during February and March.

The cuts include a temporary reduction to elective care for the remainder of the financial year.

For patients receiving treatment off Island, this means a pause to non-urgent procedures in Liverpool and Manchester until 31 March.

On-Island, the additional funding will enable many appointments to go ahead over the next two months, while those who do have their appointment disrupted will have them rearranged as early as possible from April.

Manx Care says these measures will ensure the long-term sustainability of its services, enable full clinical validation of waiting lists and reduce its reliance on additional or temporary workforce.
