Biggest increase in decade
The leader of Douglas Borough Council has described next year's rate increase as 'inevitable'.
It was announced earlier on Wednesday that rates would be set at 408 pence in the pound for 2017/18 - a rise of 1.49%.
It's the biggest increase this decade for residents in the capital.
David Christian points out the council has made savings of over half a million pounds in the past year - but liabilities such as last September's mandatory public sector pay rise created unforeseen expenses.
He insists it's a fair rise when you take into account inflation:
