Douglas man admits kicking police officer twice

Guilty plea after drunken abuse on Clifton Terrace

A Douglas man who kicked a police officer twice while shouting drunken abuse will be sentenced in October.

Thirty-three-year-old Duncan Buchanan of Rosemount appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of assaulting a police officer and being found drunk in public.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood told the hearing members of the public called police at around 9.15pm on 8 August.

They told officers a man on Clifton Terrace in Douglas was obviously drunk and shouting abuse.

When officers arrived, Buchanan became aggressive and belligerent, shouting obscenities despite repeated warnings to stop.

As he was being arrested, he began to struggle and kicked a constable twice in the shins.

Mr Arrowsmith asked for pre-sentencing reports to be prepared, telling Buchanan he was leaving all options – including custody – open.

Buchanan was bailed in the sum of £500 to next appear on 1 October.
