Civil partnership bill timed out in Commons

Campaigner confident many support the idea

A Bill to allow opposite sex couples in the UK to form civil partnerships was timed out in the House of Commons yesterday (Fri)

It had been brought forward by Tim Loughton MP and was hoped to mark a major milestone on the road to reform in the UK.

Mixed sex civil partnernerships are already legal in the Isle of Man - and several heterosexual couples have already travelled here in order to take advantage of the fact.

Campaign Manager for the Equal Civil Partnerships Campaign, Matt Hawkins, said whilst yesterday's debate ran out of time - he believes there is now a strong body of support behind it.
