Castletown Commissioners has confirmed that phase two of its School Hill housing redevelopment scheme will be going ahead.

The local authority says it has appointed a contractor and will be working 'closely' with the government to finalise the decision.

Chair Tony Brown says he hopes the update provides 'reassurance' to residents and the board remains 'fully committed' to delivering modern and affordable housing in the town.

The commissioners also say discussions were started early, but a further update and anticipated start date will be issued once final approvals have been received from the government.

Mr Brown added: "I would like to thank the members of the design team for delivering a clear and informative briefing, which enabled the board to make a prompt yet well-informed decision, which the commissioners hope will result in the next phase of the redevelopment of this important housing estate progressing at an early date.

"While the board remains committed to reviewing the final phases of the scheme to ensure they fully reflect the needs of the Castletown community, we are pleased to provide clarity on the immediate next steps.

"This marks another important milestone in the redevelopment of School Hill, and the board and I hope this statement offers reassurance to the town’s residents that my board remains fully committed to delivering modern, high-quality, and affordable housing in Castletown.”
