Letter sent out by Head Teacher Graeme Corrin

The head teacher of Ballakermeen High School in Douglas has written to parents and guardians following the death of a Year 9 student.

The letter from Graeme Corrin, issued this evening, says: "It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the unexpected death of one of our Year 9 students.

"Our thoughts are with the student's family at this extremely sad time.

"When someone dies it is normal for their friends and family to experience lots of different feelings like sadness, anger and confusion."

Mr Corrin has confirmed the Education Department's Bereavement Response Team will be attending the secondary school tomorrow (16 October) to 'support students who may need time to talk things through and they will provide further support and guidance over the coming days'.

He adds: "Thank you for your understanding and support at this very difficult time. If you have any concerns and would like to talk to us please do not hesitate to contact our school office on 648700"

No further details have been issued at this time.
