Competitive racing in Syd Quirk marathon
Christian Varley won yesterday’s (Sunday) Haldane Fisher Syd Quirk Half-Marathon at Ronaldsway.
The pre-race favourite finished the run in a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 58 seconds – 36 seconds clear of Jack Okell with visiting athlete Daryl Hibberd in third place.
It sealed a double for Varley who also triumphed in the Isle of Man Marathon in Ramsey in August.
Sarah Webster was the leading lady in seventh spot from Sara Ismail-Sutton and Dawn Yates.
Gianni Epifani won the half-marathon walk in a time of 1.47.10 from Erika Kelly (1.47.29) and Richard Gerrard (1.53.13).
Marie Jackson in 10th place overall was the second woman home followed by Bernie Johnson.
