A former fire officer says the voluntary sector may be called on to do more in future, as government services shrink.
Sixty-one-year-old John Skinner is standing in the two-seat constituency of West Douglas in next month's general election.
Having served on the Island's planning committee for nine years, he says it's important government opens up and offers more information.
He also believes that, with budget cuts on the way, other organisations may have to help the public sector (listen to audio file below):
The other people who have declared in West Douglas so far are sitting members Geoff Corkish and John Shimmin, and challengers Martin Moore and Chris Thomas.
