Tennis: Billy Harris defeated in French Open qualifiers

Former Island player suffers three-set loss at Roland Garros

Former Isle of Man tennis star, Billy Harris has been defeated in the qualifiers at this year's French Open.

Harris - whose previous clubs include Albany and Castletown - fell to a three-sets loss (6-2, 4-6, 7-6) at the hands of men's singles qualifying fourth seed, Cameron Wong.

Whilst Wong claimed a comprehensive 6-2 opening set advantage, Harris fought back to level in the second set at 6-4, forcing the contest into a deciding third set.

Little could separate both as set three was forced into a tie-break, with Wong doing enough to eventually come out on top by ten points to seven.

It's been a challenging start to the clay season for 31-year-old Harris, with this latest setback marking his seventh straight defeat on that surface, stretching back to 9 April.

As of now, Harris is 149th in the ATP world rankings.
