Rushen win in FA Cup; Town doomed in Premier League

Rushen United overcame an early shock to progress with ease in the Paddy Power FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday.

Lowly Malew had taken a shock lead before the top flight heavyweights took control with an Aaron Hawley hat-trick.

Mike Williams, Ryan Crawley (two) and Ciaran Brown netted the others in a 7-1 success.

Colby ran out 4-1 winners over Foxdale.

Kevin Kniveton, Chris McKenna (penalty) and Jack Charmer (two) got the goals as the southerners eventually pulled clear of the battling visitors, who had held them to 1-1 at the break.

Old Boys proved too strong for lower league opposition Douglas and District.

They were 7-0 winners, courtesy of goals from Darren Hudgeon (three), Callum Stewart (two), Gary Quirk and Robbie Ward.

Pulrose edged out Douglas Athletic for the second successive season in the cup with a late winner from Barry English.

Lewis Howland fired Athletic ahead before David Skillen equalised and English completed a fine run to seal the tie.

Extra-time was on the cards when Douglas Athletic were awarded a penalty, only for Lee Gartland’s last minute spot-kick to be saved by Pulrose goalkeeper Stuart Morris.

Castletown look all but doomed in the Canada Life Premier League.

They bottom club remain well adrift at the foot of the table after a 1-0 home defeat against Corinthians.
