Vagabonds win to go second in Counties 4 ADM Lancs/Cheshire
Report by Dave Christian:
Ramsey won their first Cheshire silverware beating Western Vikings 28-0 at a wet and muddy Ballafletcher and lifting the Cheshire Plate.
Only a penalty try separated the teams at half time with Western Vikings really stepping up to the plate.
In the second half though Ramsey closed out the game with tries from Ben Hardman, Conor Cracknell and Josh Leece and three conversions from Nathan Robson.
Vagabonds beat Ashton-Under-Lyne 31-7 at Ballafletcher and moved into the promotion places in Counties 4ADM Lancs/Cheshire.
First half tries from Regan Williams and Cal Donnell, plus a conversion from Dan Bonwick saw Vagas 12-0 in front.
George McCallum pulled one back for the visitors and when Connor Winfield converted, the Vagas half time lead as 12-7.
Matty Jones bagged one early in the second half and when Ashton-Under-Lyne were reduced to fourteen, both Jones and Williams grabbed their second tries with Bonwick adding two more conversions.
Vagas Ladies beat Eccles 19-0 in Womens NC1 North West to record their first win in their final game.
Vagas led 5-0 at half time through a Bliss Murtagh try; Maylyn Campbell then scored at the beginning and end of the second half to round off a fine personal season with Sammie Macdonald adding two conversions.
This was always going to be a tricky game for Douglas who were playing the team with the meanest defence in Regional 2 North West and indeed it was the visitors who came out on top 22-9 at Port-e-Chee.
Three Luke Hyland penalties was the sum total of Douglas’ efforts. Douglas hold onto eighth place in the standings with three games remaining.
