Local athlete surpasses £5000 mark for IOM MS Society
An Update on the man and machine Orran Smith, he's sitting in the top 10 of one of the toughest race's in the UK.
Running on less than 5 hours sleep since starting the 268 mile Spine Race on Sunday, Orran has been battling against temperatures as low as -12.
Last night, the Manx runner passed the 175 mile mark and the highest peak of the event.
He's 79 hours into the challenge and has until 8am on Sunday, 22 January to complete the course, which runs along the Pennine Way, starting in the South Dales and finishing in Scotland.
59 of the 159 competitors who started the race have retired; exactly 100 are still going (87 men and 13 women). Orran and his running buddy Clarens of Sweden are in joint eighth place with six men and one woman ahead of them.
Orran has taken on the challenge to raise money for the Isle of Man MS Society and has already surpassed his original target of £5000.
