Hockey: 2025 Men's & Ladies season gets underway

Men's prem champions win whilst ladies prem title holders suffer defeat (Results: 11 Jan)

The respective reigning premier league champions had contrasting starts as the 2024 men's and ladies hockey season got underway on Island today (11 January).

All six senior divisions got their latest seasons underway whilst the day also marked the resumption of the highly-contested Mixed Under-15's league.

In the men's premier league, reigning champions Vikings A overcame a tricky test with a 4-0 win against Castletown A whilst 2024 Men's Cup winners Bacchas A made an imperious start with a 9-1 hammering of Harlequins A.

Elsewhere, the current ladies premier league holders tasted defeat in the first day of their title defence as they went down 4-0 against 2023 champions Castletown A.

The standout performance in Men's Division One came from Castletown B who hit 12 past Bacchas C on their way to maximum points.

There was a southern derby to begin Ladies Division One with Castletown B - relegated from the top-flight last season - dispatched Castletown D who've been promoted into the second tier for this year.

All matches at Ramsey Grammar School today were postponed due to a waterlogged pitch - the affected matches will be rearranged in due course.
