NWCFL releases statement confirming outcome of game earlier this month
FC Isle of Man has been awarded victory and three points for its abandoned match against Prestwich Heys in the NWCFL Premier Division earlier this month.
The outcome has been confirmed in a statement by the NWCFL this morning (25 April).
In addition, a loss will be added to the playing record of Prestwich Heys but no goals will be registered for or against for either side.
The match between the two at The Bowl in Douglas on Saturday, 4 April was abandoned with just under 60 minutes played due to poor weather conditions.
The fixture was then rescheduled for 10am the following morning (5 April) at the same venue, however, Prestwich Heys did not attend.
After this, Prestwich Heys released a statement of its own explaining its reasons for not taking part in the rearranged game, citing reasons such as concerns over player welfare, injuries and travel constraints.
Meanwhile, in its announcement today, the NWCFL adds that the board decided the match would then be replayed on the Isle of Man this Saturday (25 April) but that Prestwich Heys has declined this 'due to costs.'
You can view the full NWCFL statement on the matter below:
"A decision has been announced to both clubs concerning the outstanding game between FC Isle of Man and Prestwich Heys which was referred to the League Board of Directors.
"On Saturday 4th April, the game between FC Isle of Man and Prestwich Heys was abandoned on 60 minutes due to Storm Dave's high winds affecting the game.
"The League instruction was to replay the game the following morning with a 10.00am kick off which would have allowed Prestwich Heys time to travel back to Manchester on their pre-booked scheduled flight. The club were unwilling to to comply with that instruction..
"The Board decided that the game was to be replayed in the Isle of Man on Saturday 25th April which due to costs Prestwich Heys declined. Therefore, they have awarded the game to FC Isle of Man, although no goals are required be registered.
"A victory and three points have been added to the playing record of FC Isle of Man and a loss to the playing record of Prestwich Heys."
