Wind farm plans to be explained

A meeting for constituents in Michael this evening (Tuesday) will debate whether a wind farm in the north of the Isle of Man is a good idea.

United Kingdom energy firm Ocean Electric Power has proposals which could see enough turbines built to power one in eight of the Island's homes.

As yet, there are no definite plans and no location has been chosen, but already some objections are being raised.

This evening, Ocean Electric's chief executive will be in Ballaugh to discuss the idea with local residents.

The public meeting has been called by Michael MHK David Cannan who says only those living in his constituency, and specially invited guests, will be able to attend.

Ocean Electric Power chief executive Chris Bale says he believes the project is viable and will give a presentation to people living in the area.

Mr Cannan has already publicly stated his opposition to the scheme, claiming tidal or wave generators would be better options for the Island.

The meeting takes place in Ballaugh Parish Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
