Toilet changes at QEII 'well received'

DESC says changes were made to increase comfort and reduce vandalism

Changes to toilets in one of the Island's secondary schools over the summer holidays have been well received, according to the education department.

At the start of the new term, parents took to social media to ask whether doors to the bathrooms had been removed.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture confirmed the toilets at Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel were refurbished over the summer.

It's hoped the work will provide facilities students feel comfortable using, as well as reducing incidents of vandalism.

The department says since students returned, the facilities have operated successfully, and the changes have been well received.

In response to questions about the move on social media, some parents described how the practice of removing bathroom doors, but leaving cubicle doors in place, has become standard practice in UK schools to reduce bullying, vaping and other unwanted behaviour.
