A post on Facebook alleged it is 'no longer being offered'
University College Isle of Man says the post GCSE engineering courses are an 'important part' of the curriculum and are still running.
It's after a post on Facebook this morning, which alleged the course is no longer being offered.
In a statement, UCM says the comment was in reference to the School Links Programme, which allows students from the Island’s high schools to attend the college for half a day a week to study a vocational qualification instead of one of their GCSE choices.
It says the programme offers engineering at level 2, however, due to the nature of the qualification, students who choose this course have to sit a test to ensure that the course is the right level for them.
"While we used to run a Level 1 Engineering option in our School Links programme, this was no longer viable unfortunately.
"We have contacted the parent who made the comment on Facebook to ensure we can give as much advice and support as possible.
"For students who are not successful on this occasion, we are happy to provide information, advice and guidance, in collaboration with the school’s careers advisors, based on individual circumstances in order to support the student being able to reconsider engineering for their post-GCSE options."
