Tynwald sits today

Tynwald sits later today with just twelve items on the order paper.

But politicians won’t be hoping to finish early, with thirty questions for oral answer and another twenty-four for written answer.

Among the items being laid before the court is the last annual report from Chief Constable Mike Culverhouse as well as the inquiry into electoral registration in the run up to last year’s general election.

The way the Island looks after its war memorials will also be under discussion with a motion from Michael MHK David Cannan to set up a board of custodians.

The ongoing row about putting fluoride in our water is high on the agenda, with questions from MHKs Quintin Gill and David Cannan.

Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan will raise the success of the Peel Festival and ask Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw whether he’s supporting another in 2008.

For written answer, there’s a detailed question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran to Treasury Minister Allan Bell, asking for statistics about government workers who’ve been compensated over health and safety breaches.

And East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell is just one of a number of MHKs who’ll quiz ministers about helping people pay their winter energy bills.
