Twelve-month probation for two-right-shoe thief

Twenty-year-old admitted theft and threatening behaviour

A Douglas shoplifter who took two odd shoes will spend a year on probation.

Twenty-year-old Daniel Joseph Cachia of Willaston Crescent appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

At a previous hearing, he admitted one charge of theft and one of using threatening behaviour.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the court Cachia went into JD Sports on 27 July and asked if he could try on some shoes.

The hearing was told CCTV caught Cachia taking two shoes from a display in the store and leaving with them.

It turned out Cachia had taken two right-footed trainers in different sizes and hid them in a nearby bin.

Police later arrested him, and he explained he’d taken Xanax and Valium before drinking a half-litre bottle of vodka.

He was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
