Trial for pensioner accused of 30 sexual offences

79-year-old can't be named due to anonymity laws

A pensioner from Douglas will stand trial after being accused of committing 30 sexual offences.

The 79-year-old appeared at Douglas Courthouse today (8 August).

He can’t be named due to new anonymity laws brought in this year by Tynwald.

The man denied 18 offences of indecent assault which were allegedly carried out against two boys, under the age of 16, between 2003 and 2015.

He also entered not guilty pleas to two offences of indecently assaulting an adult, and one charge of attempted indecent assault, which are said to have taken place between 2014 and 2023.

The man further denied nine offences of making indecent images of children between the same dates.

Committal proceedings – where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery – will take place on 3 October.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded at the Isle of Man Prison until that date.
