IOM Medical Society 'welcomes' UK decision on Assisted Dying Bill

Group says it is 'grateful for this intervention'

The Isle of Man Medical Society (IOMMS) has welcomed the news that the UK Government is 'currently unable to recommend the Assisted Dying Bill for Royal Assent'.

It's after the Isle of Man Government was notified this week that safeguards, monitoring of deaths and issues around capacity must be addressed in the Bill in order for it to progress.

In a statement, the IOMMS says it is 'grateful for this intervention, which reflects the gravity of the concerns the medical community has consistently raised'.

Concluding its remarks, the group says it 'remains firm in its belief that true compassion lies in the enhancement of palliative care services'.
