Measure introduced while roadworks take place
A temporary school crossing patrol is being introduced in Douglas today.
It's on Alexander Drive, outside the Wessex Garage, while roadworks take place in the area.
It'll be in operation between 8.20am and 8.50am, and 3.25pm and 3.55pm on weekdays.
Police say the person at the crossing will aim to move pedestrians mostly during red phases, to minimise disruption.
They add that sometimes it may be necessary to cross during a green phase, although this will only happen when there's a low volume of traffic.
Motorists are being urged to drive carefully in the area and be prepared to stop - failure to do so could land you with a £120 fixed penalty notice and three points on your driving licence.
Pedestrians should listen to the school crossing patrol’s instructions, be patient and wait until he or she indicates it is safe to cross.
