Teaching union votes to continue with industrial action

NASUWT members stand firm after re-ballot

Members of a teaching union have voted to continue with industrial action in a dispute with the education department over pay, workload and working practices.

The NASUWT took a ballot of its members yesterday, with 82 per cent voting in support of strike and 92 per cent in support of action short of strike.

It's been undertaking action since April, which was escalated earlier this month.

So far that move has seen some school year groups kept home this week, due to a lack of cover at break times.

Education Minister Julie Edge appealed to the union to deescalate action earlier this week.
